With a closed lipped grin, Sierra watched as Ienzo picked up the stone. "It is the least I can do, and I am very pleased that you like it." Sierra discretely sniffed the air in thought of his last comment. The stew's aroma told that it would indeed satisfy the taste buds.
Though this day was fun and eventful, it was nearly to its end. Sleep beckoned to the mage, something that happens very rarely, but of course this may all be due to the fact of her traveling. All of that was behind her now.

Ienzo dipped his head in acknowledgement, silver locks falling into his face. Sitting upward, he reached forward to stir the mixture. "Now that I have someone staying here, I really should fix up this place..." he mumbled to himself, leaning back in his seat.
"There's always something about the rain, isn't there? It makes you feel...warm...I don't know." His gaze was upon the windows as the sheets of water poured downward.

"Yes... I have always enjoyed the rain, though I do not prefer the lightning that tends to follow. It causes too many fires for the farmers." Sierra looked out the window as well. Though she wanted to continue the conversation with the illusionist, no words came to mind, therefore she busies herself in thought.
Having heard what he mumbled to himself, Sierra had the urge to support him. Though she knew not to offer the help ahead of time since he seems to not take well to help. Of course, this is how most guys are.
A bright flash illuminated the sky followed by a very loud bang. Sierra flinched at the sudden noise since she did not expect thunder to come so close after the strike. The mage shook it off, knowing that it is just because she is in a new place that she is a little jumpy. And yet, she had to admit to herself that this shack felt very welcoming and humble.
Wandering eyes tried to find something to focus on so that the mind can be distracted.Such a task is not too hard when there is someone else in the room. Never before had Sierra seen hair like his, nor eyes as deep of blue. Referring to the eye color, that is simply because the only reflection of herself she had ever seen was what the still water offered.
What made him stand out against the rest is actually what has her so intrigued. Yes, he looked like a dark person, but his personality was much more complex than such. Sierra looked away to the floor. She would learn his personality in time, for he is her teacher of magic.
Yet again the blue orbs traveled up to the figure Ienzo. His face looked barely worn, if those are the right words to use. It looked like the skin of a younger person. What could his age be? No matter how little age showed in his face, it was easy to tell he was indeed older than the female company. Knowing that she should actually mention her thoughts on this, she spoke, "Forgive me for how random this is, but may I ask, how many years of age are you?" It felt so strange to ask him such a question, but she would have to know eventually, why not now? Besides, it was a way of breaking the ice, if the two even still needed such.

The dull floorboards looked covered with dust, though in reality, they were as clean as they ever would be. Somehow they seemed to have captured a certain young man's attention. Evidently, however, there was something much more interesting in the room, for a pair of sapphire eyes flickered upward upon the young woman in their company.
Said orbs appeared to be thoughtful, tainted with mild curiosity as to why she would ask such a question. Fingers drummed a rhythm upon the arm of the chair before Ienzo shifted in his seat. It was a rather uncomfortable topic, though he hadn't a thought as to why. Age had never mattered to the man, and though he still remained quite young, he assumed this must have been the reason as to why he positively despised discussing time. It came to realization to him that it had flown by faster than he'd expected, and from a point of perspective, he felt as though it was possible that the rest of his life would be gone just as hastily as the years that had already passed.
Sighing, nimble tendrils reached up and scratched the scalp beneath shimmering silver locks. Firelight flickered about the room, taking the messenger's gaze away from the maiden. Staring into the flickering flames, he finally opened his mouth to reply.
"Though age is just a befallen insult upon one that does not level up to the area of which they should be, you are oblidged to know, I suppose. I am of twenty-two years. I would ask you the same, considering we are on the topic, but I am afraid it would be very prudent manners to ask a lady such a thing." A light chuckle emmited from him.
The young man had no interest whatsoever of how long she'd been on the Earth. What he'd meant by the 'insult' area of his dialect, he hoped Sierra would be capable of understanding. Many were expected to act their age, and if one did not, they would be undoubtedly frowned upon.
Ienzo believed the world would be better without named age, for judgement should be made upon how one behaves, not how long they have existed. However, it was common curiosity to know of such a thing.
"Tell me...how long have you been traveling? I'd be interested to hear some tales, for it would do great deeds for my book entries."

Sierra laughed lightly in embarrassment. "I am afraid if it is an exciting adventure you are after, you have come to the wrong person." Though she found the events that took place quite intriguing, she highly doubted one would be so easily amused.
A finger tapped her lower lip in thought. Flickering light emitted from the fire beside her give the mage memories of the people she had encountered. She shook it out of her mind, for she did not believe Ienzo would be amused by what people she had come across.
Yet another lightning strike came randomly, making Sierra actually jump this time. Her being in such deep thought was making her vulnerable to loud noises. She shook her head, and then looked up to the illusionist again, now having an idea. "There was.. one thing that was interesting." Sierra stood, making her damp clothes slosh. A wandering hand searched a side pocket rapidly. The fingers found their prize, though a look of disappointment came to their owner's face.
Holding up a wilted, drooping flower, she explained, "It seems as though this flower species does not prefer much water." Her arm dropped to her side before she continued. "When traveling at night, I cam across this field of glowing petals. Their scent was very light and if I had not seen them I probably would not have noticed their existence. It was only the night before I arrived here, so it is not far off."
Her gaze fell to the flower by her side. "I do not know how safe it is to pick them though. They have some strange way of defense. It is... very hard to describe." She honestly did not even want to talk about what she had seen when picking the flower. To be honest, she just saw Ienzo as the science type of person, so she thought he might be interested to know about a strange species of plant nearby.

Light eyebrows shot up Ienzo's forehead in curiosity. He examined the flower with interest before rising up in his seat. "Forgive me...I have forgotten to fet you a dry pair of accouterments. I will return momentarily." With a bow to her, he left the room.
The staircase creaked when climbed, encouraging the young man to fix up the old shack. Moving into the room, Ienzo searched blindly through the dresser before coming up with undergarments and a comfortable gown. Floorboards groaning beneath the added weight, the house wasn't putting up too well against the weather.
The writer left the room and returned the lower floor, holding out the clothing in offering. "I am certain you will feel much better once you have changed. The backroom is open to you, my lady."

Sierra leaned over and set the flower by the fire place, not caring if it burned or not since she secretly planned on returning to that place, no matter what the danger. With a nod of thanks, the mage took the clothes and followed directions to the back room.
During the coarse of two minutes, Sierra yanks off the wet clothes that persist on clinging to her body. In one big jerk the robe came off, slopping to the floor, and allowing little trinkets fall out of their hiding places. Yes, it is a fact that the mage is indeed a pack rat. Any little thing she wants to keep is instantly stored in her robe.
Dry clothes were welcomed to her body. The dampness was starting to get to her, thus it was probably good that Ienzo had felt generous to donate these rather than reply to her story. It did not bother her anyways, she knew that she was and always will be a boring person. That is what training in magic did; make her somebody. Though her father was not too fond of it, he did not protest when he got hurt out in the shop and she healed him.

Sounds of wood against metal reverberated throughout the gathering room, amongst the occasional pop of the flames in the fireplace. The stew was nearly ready, and it would only be a matter of time before its sweet scent made the shack's occupants salivating. Ienzo was already beginning to feel a twinge of hunger in the pit of his stomach.
Leaning back in his chair, he pulled out a scroll, a quill, and ink. The container holding the dye was set upon the armrest, the parchment upon the young man's lap. Dipping the quill into its black depths, it soon touched the paper and began to fulfill its purpose.
Destination lies within the stars. The meaning of which I cannot say, but the more I study, the more I seem to believe there is a greater power resting within the heavens. Though I have much research to do on this subject, somehow I fear my satisfaction will never be fulfilled.
Life is full of questions that will never go unanswered, and from how things are going, the more I discover, the more I realize that I know so little. Every topic breached, every fact gained leads me onto another theory, another area that needs to be explored.
Now I branch into an completely abnormal form of practice. Having taken on an apprentice, I will be doing what I can to teach this young woman to control the element of water. I have indeed worked with such knowledge and skills before, I believe we will be venturing much farther than I had ever planned to go.
Rain upon the surface of the water makes one realize that, in a strange way, we all need such a powerful element to survive. The human body is composed mostly of this liquid, so in the proper hands, such skills could be deadly. I will do my best, though I fear such teachings will be more of a self-practice for the maiden.
Sighing, Ienzo frowned at his written work before putting it aside. There was no more he desired to write on the topic, so he brought out a leather-bound book and unlatched the lock, opening it to a ensrcibed page and beginning to read. The diary of a young girl, soon to be finished by her older brother.

Sierra gathered her belongings once complete in dressing. Out the door she stepped, making way back to the room she was in previously. Passing that area, she trudged upstairs, loaded down with heavy garments. On a half-length pole she tossed the clothes while taking the objects that were stored and set them on the ground, tucked away in a corner.
The apprentice came out of her room. Instead of going back downstairs, she found that the view from the balcony is quite pleasant. She closed her eyes, tilted her head back, and inhaled deeply. This place is so peaceful even during a storm. How strange.

Blue orbs lifted upward, falling upon the young woman. A smile graced the features of the writer as he watched with amusement. Her beauty was stunning, though he struggled to push away such thoughts. Things like that had potential to become lust, and that was the last thing he wanted on his mind.
Resisting temptation to interrupt her serenity, he shook his head and lowered it to go back to reading. There was undenied attraction already placed within his heart, so he would have to keep a close watch upon it in the future. There wasn't a doubt it would hastily fade, for he would go on to see her nothing more than an apprentice and a good friend. This was how it always was.
Even if there were greater feelings to come, Ienzo would never come close to allowing himself to feel more than friendship for the lady. She was a traveler, someone that came, stayed, and left. Becoming attached was a fool's promise and heartbreak, a destined mistake.
My big brother seems to have found himself a lady at last. Mother always complains that he'll never be married off, but I personally think he's-
Tearing his gaze from the page, the messenger blinked tears from weary eyes. Six years ago...it was still fresh in his memory. He'd done his best to forget it, to move on, but her smiling face always returned to him. She had been eight years old when she'd written this, meaning he'd been fifteen. Perhaps this was another reason he did not like age; it was a constant reminder of what had taken place those few years ago.
The Zexion parents, however, had passed away the same year his sister had written that particular entry. It had only been a few weeks after it, in fact. The house had started on fire, and though Ienzo and Lyssa had made it out safely, their mother and father had been trapped in the destruction.
Sierra now occupied the room that had once been Lyssa's, though it was not a painstaken memory to lend it away. His sister would have wanted him to, anyway. Regret of not being able to save her that day had changed him, driven him onward to learn enough to take revenge.
"Lyssie..." The nickname brushed past his lips in a whisp of air, quiet and nearly inaudible to ears of audience. She'd been so fond of her older brother, believing any woman he fancied was lucky to be chosen. But he thought differently. Ienzo almost believed the lady he at long last fell in love with was doomed to a sad fate. The nagging of memories plagued his mind, and he constantly wondered if in the future he would not be able to protect his wife, as he hadn't his sister. That was why he hid his feelings so accordingly and warded himself away from any sort of intimate emotion. A small voice whispered in his ear, though he paid no heed. This was not matters of the dead.

The time Sierra took to close her eyes became a moment of meditation. Though the clearing of mind was helpful, her mind was soon afterwards clouded with thoughts. Sierra wanted to sleep, but feared the dreams that accompanied.
Blue eyes shot open out of being troubled. She never really knew what it was about it, but ever since her mother died and left her the book of magic, Sierra has never gotten a night's sleep that was not full of morbid scenes. But if she were to have a dark fate like her mother, the mage planned on leaving some kind of mark. Maybe she could find a cure for some type of disease. Maybe even for one like that in which took her mother's life.
Troubled eyes trailed down to the figure of Ienzo. Something about him is sad... something he hides and keeps to himself. Possibly, this man was indeed a little like Sierra, just with a darker past. The mage has never really had anything happen to her to make her so timid or reserved besides her mother dieing. All the insults and strange glances did not phase her much, just make her realize she is different. Though how, she cannot think of.
Suddenly, a sweet tune came to her thoughts. While noting all the notes down in her mind, she dashed for her room and grabbed her flute. She slowly made way back to her standing position on the balcony. Her lips lined up with the designated placement, pressed her lips, and blew lightly to reserve air for the longer notes. The notes expressed her current mood by flowing out of the instrument fluently. They came slow and changed often with short moments of fast moving notes. Slow moving notes were meant to be mournful of any past that may trouble one, while the fast, fluttery notes that blended surprisingly well with the others were in a sense to look forward to what the future may hold.
Sierra hoped the best of the future and prayed that she would find this kingdom home. The apprentice did not plan on leaving, for her father expects her here, so if he were to send a letter, it would be here. Not to mention that she now has someone that has offered friendship; something no one else has done before.
Wanting to tribute something to her father with her talent, Sierra also mixed in part of the lullaby that was always hummed to her as a child. Her father's voice was always low and rumbling, but it is what she had grown up with since her mother was never there. Not as though she cared though, her mother was not the best person in the world. Being pretty was the only good trait she had. How her father ended up with that woman, no one knew. Perhaps it was trickery...
The tune coming from the flute was stopped abruptly. Sierra stared ahead at the wall on the other side of the room. Her mind had become a blank as of what notes to play, and besides, she felt as though by now she would be driving Ienzo insane. A memory came back to her of just a year ago.
When playing her flute, sitting on a rock high up off to the side of the village, a group of people were walking by. One found it amusing to see if the young woman was quick to react when her hands were occupied. The oldest of the group of adolescent teenagers picked up a rock in his hand. He drew his arm back and flung it hard. The rock had a sharp side; the side that connected to her face. This force caused Sierra to fly off the rock and left a deep cut on her right facial cheek. Thankfully, the mark left behind is nearly gone, slowly healing. Her healing was the only thing that made it go away so fast. And yet her face was covered in blood from the rock, the teenagers pointed and laughed at the pathetic sight. Rather than use what she knew of magic, the mage simply curled up in a tight ball to protect the vital areas.
Shaking motions came over her head as to shake the memory away. The cruel people of that village are behind her now. She tucked away her flute in a place for it to be stored for a long time. After this, Sierra trudged down the stairs and sat down in the open chair.

Curious optics judged the woman carefully. Thoughts ran through the man's mind, questions regarding her behavior. Leaning forward in his seat, Ienzo cocked his head inquiringly. His hands were folded upon his lap in a serious manner, a look of concern set within his sapphire eyes.
"What is bothering you, Sierra? You seem troubled." He hastily closed the diary and tucked it away. It would be useless to burden her with his own problems. Lyssa was something of the past, something for him to ponder about. No one else knew about the situation, and Ienzo had no intentions of telling anyone, unless that person truly meant something.

Sierra shook her head for she did not wish to make Ienzo listen to her foolish stories. It was simple bullying, it happens to everyone, right? "Nothing to worry about; just dwelling on the past is all." She pulled off her usual fake smile that she always gave her father when trying to hide something.
"Thank you for the clothes." It was a short thank you, and not very special, but at least it was something. He was giving her so much, yet what has she done for him? Nothing. This she would work on changing in the near future.

Ienzo's eyes narrowed with suspicion. He wasn't buying a word of it, but would not press questions. It would be unfair of him to hide from her and ask her to show him her past. Standing up, he gave her a nod. "I hope you sleep well. I must retire to bed."
Turning around, he headed toward the stairs. "If you need anything," he called over his shoulder, "I'm right down the hall." Ascending the stairs, he crossed the balcony and entered his room before closing the door behind him. Eyes closed for a moment, he reopened them and sat down on the bed. It would be another restless night...it would be every night until he finished reading that journal.

Sierra watched as the man went to his bedroom. Apparently he did not much care for the company. She looked to the side to stare at the stew that he had left cooking. A small smile came over her lips as she put out the fire. He obviously had a lot on his mind to forget such a thing.
After completing the task, Sierra made way up to her room. She laid down on the bed, errupting a squeak from it. Fatigue was so high for the mage that she fell asleep instantly. In doing this she also forgot to do a few things, such as shut the bedroom door.. or even tuck herself under the covers.
Rather than have nightmares, the mage had hours of complete darkness. No dream ever came to her at any moment of the night. This has never happened to her before, but it was if anything a blessing.
