 Prayer of Lost Souls

Keen amber eyes scanned a horizon of endless wheat. A gentle breeze rustled the natural-growing crop, making the area have an eerie touch. The deafening silence helped none to boot, and the moonlight casted upon the cold earth could make any average person jumpy.

The visitor silently willed even for a bird to make some sort of sound, but no sound came...except for the haunting voices that never seemed to go away. The souls that were lost, the lives taken...they seemed to return in Mercy Meadow...for some. Those with either the hauntings of the dead, or those with a gift could hear the cry of the tortured.

Rain brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and rested her arm on her knee. She didn't like to come here often due to the voices of hate that would whisper in her ear, but this was also an incredibly peaceful area. Many people, she knew, came here to think things through and come up with a solution to their problems. She was not among these many people.

A dagger shimmered in the little amount of light, its blade glowing a bright white. Its handle was wrapped in the tightest of leathers, but its sheath was made simply of a rope tied around the girl's waist. The lonely wanderer had never really found a reason to dress properly, so her attire consisted of smoked leather wrapped around her body, wolf fur on her back to keep her warm, and a rope to keep everything on. Her feet were dressed with more hide, of course.

Most women dressed for attraction, but Rain had never loved, and she'd never found a reason to harbor feelings. They only caused trouble in her eyes. Partnership was so far off, yet for all she knew, it could be so close. But who would want to fall in love with a killer, or someone as hideous as she thought she was? Still, the whispers of the spirits seemed to urge her to seek...to find. To kill? No...but to cherish. 'Mission impossible,' was her silent reply to their request.
